The 12-point HIS buyer’s checklist
1. Module coverage — does it include OPD, IPD, emergency, OT, lab, radiology, pharmacy, inventory and billing out of the box, or are some "add-ons"?
2. Single database — can a doctor, nurse, lab and billing user all see the same live patient record?
3. Clinical depth — structured SOAP notes, e-prescriptions, order sets, templates and consent forms.
4. Billing & insurance — packages, advances, TPA/insurance workflows, credit notes, refunds and GST-ready bills.
5. Standards — FHIR, HL7, ICD-10/11, SNOMED CT and ABDM integration (ABHA, health records exchange).
6. Reporting — management dashboards, department reports and the ability to export data.
7. Security — role-based access, audit logs, encryption in transit and at rest, backup and recovery.
8. Usability — can a new nurse or front-desk user learn it in days, not weeks?
9. Configurability — departments, tariffs, templates and workflows changeable without custom code.
10. Implementation method — a documented plan, data-migration approach, UAT and training.
11. Support model — response times, escalation path and who owns your account after go-live.
12. Roadmap and references — ask to speak with a live customer of similar size.
How HISVention approaches each point
HISVention is a single platform with 20 modules on one secure database, built on FHIR and ABDM standards. Clinical, nursing, diagnostics, pharmacy, inventory and billing are native — not stitched together — and leadership gets a BI Dashboard and Reports & Analytics from the same data.
Our seven-step transition framework (assessment, workflow study, design and gap, configuration and data, test and validate, change and train, go-live and hypercare) is documented, with a deliverable at every step.
Questions to ask in every vendor demo
Ask the vendor to demonstrate your own scenario live: register a patient, admit, order a lab test, dispense medicine, generate the final bill with an insurance split, and show the revenue report — without switching products. Then ask to see what happens when you change a tariff or add a department. A real platform handles both without developer time.
