HIS and HMS
A Hospital Information System (HIS) and Hospital Management System/Software (HMS) mean essentially the same thing: an integrated system for registration, OPD/IPD, clinical records, nursing, lab, pharmacy, inventory, billing and reporting.
EMR and EHR
An Electronic Medical Record (EMR) is the digital version of a patient’s chart in one organisation. An Electronic Health Record (EHR) is designed to be shared across organisations. Both are a part of a HIS, not a replacement for it.
LIS, PACS, RCM and others
A Laboratory Information System (LIS) manages sample-to-report workflows. PACS stores and displays medical images. Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) covers billing, claims and collections. In a modern HIS such as HISVention, these are modules on one database.
Which do you need?
A solo clinic may only need EMR, billing and pharmacy. A hospital needs a full HIS. If you are a stand-alone lab, you need a LIS. Prefer a platform that lets you start small and add modules later.
